Covid-19 Updates

The latest from UNC Greensboro

December 22, 2021

Students, Faculty, and Staff:

As we head into the winter break, we want to thank you for helping Shield Our Spartans this semester and share with you expectations for spring 2022.

As last semester suggests, UNCG’s safety measures were and continue to be effective at keeping the number of on-campus COVID-19 cases low. Our vaccination rates for students, faculty, and staff are well above 83%, and there has been no evidence of classroom transmission. Job well done, Spartans.

Our commitment to keeping this community safe includes closely monitoring COVID-19 infection rates and anticipated spikes due to variants of the virus. With your continued diligence during winter break and adherence to existing testing, safety, and operational protocols upon return to campus, we are confident in our plans for the spring semester.

Expectations for Spring Semester

We anticipate instruction to be offered as currently scheduled, with classes starting January 10th. We will enhance COVID-19 safety measures for the spring semester. These include:

  • Face coverings will be required indoors, regardless of vaccination status, and individuals are encouraged to double mask to provide additional safety.
  • Students, faculty, and staff must be vaccinated or be tested weekly. Testing will resume after the winter break beginning January 3rd.
  • We continue to request individuals self-report COVID-19 infections and exposures. Please maintain this practice over winter break.
  • Additionally, all students living in residence halls must be tested regardless of vaccination status before move-in. Residential students will receive an email from Housing and Residence Life with testing details.

As we learn more over the coming days and as CDC and local health department guidance evolves, we may see the need to modify our testing, safety, and operational protocols. If that happens, we will notify you through email, social media, and new announcements posted on the UNCG COVID Website.

Vaccinations and Boosters

If you have not yet been vaccinated or received your booster, UNCG strongly encourages you to do so. Vaccination and a booster are the most effective tools available to protect against serious illness. If you have questions about the vaccines, boosters, or need help locating vaccination locations, visit the UNCG COVID Website

Once you have received your vaccine, be sure to upload your information to the UNCG COVID-19 Vaccine Portals. Booster information cannot be uploaded at this time, but plans are underway to make this possible soon.

Stay Connected
During winter break, please check your email and other University channels periodically for likely updates and information before returning to campus.

We are optimistic about the spring semester and look forward to seeing you in January. Thank you again for everything you are doing to Shield Our Spartans.

Happy Holidays, and Go Spartans.
